A Case Presentation of Acnte Intermittent Porphyria

Abstract

|
A case of acute intermittent porphyria seen at Han-yang University Hospital was
reported and a review of recent literature related to this case was presented briefly.
A 31-year-old Korean woman was admitted to the hospital because of sudden onset
of severe abdominal pain, mental confusion and an episode of unconsciousness.
Watson-Schwartz test was strongly positive.
Following conservative treatment, the abdominal pain and the psychic manifestations
disappeared gradually till the 15th hospital day, but generalized paresthesia and mild
weakness of extremities were persistent on discharge (on the 34th hospital day)
There was no familial history.
